Ich Will Wählen!
Seitdem ich wähle durfte, habe ich immer gewählt-Kommunalwahl, Landtagswahl, Bundestagswahl.
Was für ein Privileg das ist, wird mir aber jetzt erst hier bewusst, wo ich als Permanent Resident nicht wählen kann.
Ein komisches Gefühl. Ein Gefühl von Hilflosigkeit. Quo vadis? Wohin gehst du? Wohin geht es in diesem Land? Ich kann es nicht mitbestimmen.
Noch nie war ich viel an Politik interessiert, aber hier zu leben, hat das gehörig geändert. Auch wenn es leider keine Auswahl gibt: 2 große Parteien und die Grünen, die nicht relevant sind.
PS: Genauso war es für David in Deutschland. Ohne Staatsangehörigkeit, kein Wahlrecht.
PPS: Bis zum 4. November wird es hier wohl noch einige Posts zum Thema Wahlkampf in den USA geben!

I feel your pain...I'm a permanent resident too. I have a whole new appreciation for the right to vote since living in the states.
:-) And it was not easy to get the greencard!!
Did you ever think about dual-citizenship?
It's terrible how difficult they make it. I have thought about dual, but as you know, there is a lengthy waiting process and I don't want to give up my Canadian citizenship (ever!) so I'm not sure it'll work for me. My nextdoor neighbour is from Germany too and she told me that she'd have to revoke her German citizenship to become American. she's not going to do it either.
Ah well. I don't think it's such a terrible thing to be a German or a Canadian anyway! ;)
I don't want to give up my German citizenship neither!
